Thursday, 29 July 93 -- Wednesday, 4 August 93--Due to pressing business back in the lower forty-eight, we've decided to return to New Mexico by as quickly as possible. Therefore, rather than continuing to ride leisurely around Alaska and catching the ferry in Skagway on the 7th of August, as planned, we're riding our Harleys back home by the most direct route possible.
We checked out of the motel, left our bikes at the Harley dealer for servicing and walked to the nearest laundramat with our dirty clothes. We then exchanged American for Canadian dollars for our travels back through Canada.
Since the mechanic completed George's bike first, he left for Tok with me to follow. It was almost 8:00 p.m. when they were finished with Serena.
I loaded her up and headed south. Due to the lateness of my trip, I encountered more animals than usual on the road. North and south of Delta Junction, at three different times, moose walked across the road in front of me and really got my attention. I have no desire to hit the side of a moose with my bike. I finally found George at the Wayfarer's Inn after midnight and crashed for awhile.
We continued retracing the route we had followed on our way to Alaska, riding back through Canada, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico, arriving in Alamogordo on the afternoon of August 4. According to Serena's odometer, we had ridden 9,015 miles from the time we left Alamogordo on the 9th of July until our retun on the 4th of August.
