Harley Ride to Alaska

Fort Nelson to Watson Lake

Saturday, 24 July 93--Although it was raining when we awakened this morning, the weather cleared, and we had another good day for riding. Early in the day, however, we traveled through 16 miles of muddy road which made a mess of our bikes.

Muncho Lake at about Milepost 437 We traveled through mountains so spectacularly beautiful that it almost made me cry. At one time a young black bear approached the edge of the road but turned baack into the bushes at the sound of our loud exhausts. Another time, I felt my anus pucker tightly when I hit loose gravel on the road as I entered a curve at about 65 mph. At one time I thought George had bought the frrm when his tires left the edge of the road on a curve while passing a car. After that, I started peering off the road at all curves whenever I would find myself separated from George--wanted to make sure I didn't unknowingly leave him behind if he had crashed and burned. Gasing up on the road

Out in the middle of nowhere, we came upon some folks standing around a Toyota van which had totally burned except for the metal. At least someone there said it was a Toyota--really couldn't tell by looking at it.

The worst thing that happened to me personally today was losing the litttle brass bell that George's wife had given me to scare the animals away from the road. I was very sad.

The price of gas has ranged from 45.9 cents to 69.9 cents per liter Canadian so far.

Welcome sign entering Watson Lake, British Columbia This fantastic day ended with us comfortably settled in the Gateway Motor Inn in the Yukon Province in the town of Watson Lake. We had a rain shower after we were safely in the motel I bought some cards and stamps at a souvenir shop and sent a couple cards to my sisters. Before going to bed, I enjoyed reading some more of Alaska

George called the Harley dealer in Fairbanks and made arrangements to get both our bikes serviced when we get there.

I've realy enjoyed the very friendly nature of all the people we've talked since entering Canada.
