Harley Ride to Alaska

Watson Lake to Haines Junction

Sunday, 25 July 93--It was very cool when we hit the road at 7:00 this morning. We rode through several construction sites in the first hundred miles and collected considerably more mud on our scooters. At one point we rode through about 15 miles of very dense fog. Typical winding road that brings joy to a Harley rider's heart Welcome sign for Haines Junction, Yukon Territory

Later, we rode alongside beautiful Teslin Lake for about 35 miles. It was so gorgeous that I found it hard to keep my eyes on the road.

Our travel day ended in Haines Junction at the foot of gigantic mountains at the edge of Kluane National Park. This place is located at the junction of Yukon Highway 1 (Alaska Highway) and Yukon Highway 3. We're spending the night at the Cozy Corners Motel with a spectacular mountain view.

Late in the evening, I went for a four-mile walk along the Dezedeash River Nature Trail. Although a sign cautioned against bears, the only animals I saw were squirrels, ducks, crows, and lots of mosquitoes. The trail went through aspen and spruce forests alongside real moosey-looking marshes.
